lag baomer 2019 hebron

Lag BaOmer celebrated in the City of the Patriarchs!

The traditional bonfire was lit at the Tomb of Machpela in Hebron for Lag BaOmer.

A children’s procession from the Chazon David synagogue to the Cave of the Patriarchs kicked off the annual lighting of the Lag BaOmer bonfire.

The tradition of counting every day from Passover to Shavuot has its roots in the Bible. Lag BaOmer, the 33rd day  of the Omer count, is a festive celebration.

The 2nd century mystic sage, Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai was honored as was his teachings of the Kabbalah.

The lighting was led, as usual, by the members of the Hebron Hospitality Hebron organization which arranges tour groups and large events.
At the end of the ceremony, the procession continued to ignite a second bonfire in a open area near the historic Avraham Avinu synagogue.
