Thousands of French immigrants participated in the annual Hebron day parade.
The annual Yom Hevron event returned with more than 1,000 French speakers, tourists and new immigrants sponsored by the Israël is Forever organization.
Participants visited the Tomb of the Patriarchs and Matriarchs and other historic sites. The event was curtailed for the past two years due to the coronavirus pandemic with only a bare minimum of participants.
At Yeshivat Shavei Hevron, a ceremony took place on the roof where a huge Israeli flag was unfurled. dedicated to the memory of Jacques Kupfer, the late founder of Israel Is Forever and initiator of the Yom Hevron event 35 years ago. His daughter Nili Kupfer-Naouri spoke to the participants about her father’s passion for Zionism and Israel.
Yair Polack of Yeshivat Shavei Hevron spoke as well as Joël Mergui, president of the Paris branch of the Consistoire Israelite Marseille Jewish community group.
Other participants included Chief Rabbi of Tzfat Shmuel Eliyahu, and Members of Knesset Yosef Taieb, Orit Strouk, Simcha Rothman and Bezalel Smotrich.
The flag parade took place through the streets of Hebron and passed the newly purchased Beit HaHerut building, the community’s latest acquisition.
